Lights, Camera, Action!: Tri-C event explores opportunities in film industry

Hear from Hollywood insiders and learn tips to launch a behind-the-scenes career in filmmaking during an Entertainment Industry Speaker Series event at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).

The free program featuring discussions with industry writers and producers will take place from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Tri-C’s Metropolitan Campus Center along East 30th Street in Cleveland.

The schedule includes:
Screenwriting and the Art of Pitching: 1:15-2 p.m. Kevin Fox, co-executive producer for NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, among other credits, will offer insight into successfully approaching networks, studios and production companies.

Creative Collaborative Process: 2-2:45 p.m. Bruce McKenna, a writer for HBO’s Band of Brothers as well as a producer, will discuss the creative decision-making process and how writers, directors and producers work together.

Open Panel Discussion: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Fox and McKenna talk about career challenges in a conversation moderated by actor James Madio, who starred in Band of Brothers and is involved with the Tri-C Film Academy.

The program is presented by the Tri-C Film Academy, which formed to train the professional on-set workforce needed to support and grow Northeast Ohio’s film and media production industry.

Film Academy courses have been developed with support from the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, industry professionals and members of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 209.

Exercise is Medicine: A Tri-C Focus on Fitness, April 25

PARMA: Learn how fitness and lifestyle can improve your overall health during “Exercise is Medicine on Campus,” a free upcoming program at the Western Campus of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).

The free event is open to the public and will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, 2019 at the campus, located at 11000 Pleasant Valley Road in Parma.

Exercise is Medicine is part of a global health initiative by the American College of Sports Medicine. The goal is to promote physical activity and a healthy lifestyle to help prevent many chronic diseases.

The event at Western Campus will feature:

Fitness assessments of bicep curl strength, hand grip and vertical jump.

A variety of health screenings, including blood pressure tests and a body fat analyzer.

Chair massages by students in the College’s Massage Therapy program.

Healthy food samples.

The community event is sponsored by the College’s Sport and Exercise Studies program, which prepares students for careers as personal trainers, fitness specialists and other health-related professions.

Tri-C’s Corporate College introduces new Sales Training Program


WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS: Learn proven techniques to close sales and drive business during a four-week training program offered through Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) at Corporate College® East.


“Mastering the Essentials of Selling” will take place over four Wednesdays between May 1 and May 22, 2019. Each interactive session runs from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Corporate College East in Warrensville Heights.


The training will be led by Marvin Montgomery, a professional sales trainer and motivational speaker with more than three decades of experience. The “Sales Doctor” is the author of Preparation and Practice: The Professional’s Guide to Sales Success.


His sessions feature practice-oriented “role-play” approaches to improve sales results. The program is designed to increase effectiveness in presenting products or services; overcoming objections; and closing sales.


Participants will leave with a personal action plan to implement what they learned in class. Lessons will benefit sales professionals in all fields and industries.
